I was in the act of summing up the number of CD projects this prolific singer/songwriter had done over the years. When I reached 16 I got too tired to continue my research. Pastor Wintley Phipps, premier Adventist recording artist, singer/ songwriter, Grammy nominee has just simply been engaged and engaging over the years.
On the Wintley Phipps Favorite Hymns album, there are 11 immortalized hymns. It's just that Wintley lends a unique presence to whatever song he ministers. "Amazing Grace," the history of which he loves to recite before delivering, is cut seven. Wintley does not do an overkill on any of his vocal arrangements. He allows the hymn to be bigger than himself so that the listener who is caught up in flair and sheer artistry may be disappointed. The singer is just focused on ministering. Here is one who knows the difference between a hymn and a pop song
An exclamation attributed to an overwhelmed fan, and reported in the Maryland Gazette captures the sentiments of this project: "Oh brother, his music goes straight to the core of your soul."
